When Parents have a Less than Perfect Day

Do you ever feel like there's something wrong with you because you have this beautiful baby and everyday doesn't feel like it's the best day? Let me just tell you: that is so normal. Hear my thoughts on it in this week's video.

I know, people always say, "Oh, enjoy every moment."

But quite frankly, how in the world do you enjoy every moment?

And I know so much mom guilt comes up because it's hard and our feelings are all over the place. But, think about this for a second: Did you always want to get married?

I can hear you saying to yourself, "Oh, I just, you know, I fantasize about the day and what our life would be like." But quite frankly, every day isn't an awesome, wonderful day, is it? Like, there are real ups and downs.

And that's OK. You don't tell yourself "Oh, something's wrong with me because, you know, every single day with my partner is not just the best day ever." Right?

Or, maybe you had this dream job that you wanted and you finally got it. But, then, even at this dream job, every single day isn't wonderful. Because sometimes there's deadlines and sometimes there are stressors in your job.

But, you don't think, "Something's wrong with me because I do not enjoy this absolutely wonderful job that I thought was going to be the best ever."

So, why do we tell ourselves as parents that if we're not enjoying every moment, somehow we're not a good parent or something is wrong with us?

So, I just want you to think about those things the next time you're feeling down about yourself, about parenting being harder than you thought it should be--because it is. Parenting is hard. There are ups and downs. And for every good moment, there's a tough moment too.

So, take care of yourself. Do the things that you need to do to make sure that you have everything you need to give what you can to be a parent and a partner.

But if you still find that you're struggling, give me a call here in Sacramento. I'd be happy to help you. And if you're not in Sacramento, give me a call or shoot me an email and I'd be happy to help you find some resources in your area.

Because I know parenting isn't always a piece of cake. And, I want you to know that there is support out there, but I also want you to think about these things the next time: that, of course, it's not going to be a walk in the park every day.

And if you don't enjoy every moment, that's OK because most of us don't. But I want you to enjoy the moments that are wonderful.
