Questions to Ask Yourself and How The Answers Will Lead to Self-Nourishment

Sometimes I pick a word of the year.

The word I pick is a word that I will call on to keep me grounded and focused.

This year my word is NOURISH.

I’ve needed this word a lot these first couple of weeks of 2021.

The reality is, I know deep down that this year isn't the time for a major overhaul.

But what I know I need to do is to gradually make small changes to foreground the things that are important to me.

So here is how I will use NOURISH:

I want to make sure I am NOURISHING myself.

I want to make sure I am NOURISHING my family.

I want to make sure I am NOURISHING friendships.

I want to make sure I am NOURISHING my business.

This year isn't about weight goals or looks, travel or bucket list items.

But if I can continue to hone my self-care routine that will be good.

This year is about paying attention to your needs and what is important to you and within you.

I welcome you to use NOURISH in the next 340 days ahead.

Break it down.  Keep it simple.  One small change at a time.

You  can start by asking yourself these three questions to find out what you need for self-nourishment:

Do I need something for my body?

  • examples: rest, food, movement

Do I need something for my mind?

  • examples: a good book, connection with friends, journal

Do I need something for my spirit?

  • examples: meditation, laughter, time in nature

Once you have explored your needs through asking the three questions above, approach your plan to meet one need on your list by devoting a few minutes to your self-care. Once this feels manageable, and if time allows, increase the amount of time you are spending with this specific need.

Move forward with the other needs that came up during exploration in the same way.

Repeat this process as often as you feel called. Always start by asking yourself the three questions above and always remember to approach the process with exploration and discovery.
